Life can be mysterious, complex and sometimes overwhelming. Making art helps me figure it out. It helps me to experience what I can’t reach with words. I'm often exploring something conceptual whether it's impermanence, identity, underlying dynamics in nature or the dignity of living things.
In the process, I experiment, wrestle, play and discover. I’m drawn to the essence of things and try to capture the emotion and mystery of whatever it is I am making. I spend a lot of time in silence in an attempt to stay connected while painting.
I studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, and also with the maverick artist, teacher and author Leigh Hyams. I consider myself a perpetual student.
